Decibel Detective:
how loud is too loud?

A live, A-weighted decibel meter using your phone's microphone. Gigs, traffic, building sites and the neighbours upstairs, measured, logged and compared against reference levels you can picture. Indicative readings for everyday use; for a legal dispute or a workplace assessment, back it up with a calibrated meter.

About / Decibel Detective

How loud is too loud? — end of pitch.

A decibel meter for the real world, using the microphone in your phone: gigs, traffic, workplaces and noisy neighbours. Live dB readout, peak hold, and reference levels at a glance. Readings are indicative; the app is not a calibrated sound level meter.

Built and published under DadLink Technologies Limited, an independent software studio in Macclesfield, Cheshire. The full source is operated, supported, and updated in-house.

Features / what's inside

Four things it does well.

01

Live dB(A)

A-weighted sound pressure readout from the device microphone, smoothed for readable field use.

02

Peak and average

Rolling average alongside peak hold so you can capture both the spike and the steady state.

03

Reference levels

Built-in comparisons — quiet conversation, traffic, drill, concert — so the number actually means something.

04

Session capture

Log a session with notes and location, ready for a complaint, a workplace report, or a sound check.
